The 2018 Syrah (Santa Barbara County) is superb. Rich, deep and fleshy, this striking, absolutely delicious Syrah has so much to offer. Blueberry, violet, lavender, chocolate, spice, licorice and black pepper capture the essence of cool-climate Syrah. The 2018 is an irresistible appellation-level wine that punches well above its weight. What a knock-out! (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, August 2020)

Spicy with a juicy, creamy mouthfeel. Nice tannic smoky finish. Medium length. Quite complex with berry and floral flavors. Not jammy. Delicious.

Deep, deep purple with just a bit of cherry showing through. The nose is flamboyant and in your face without being harsh or cloying. Blackberry and spice upfront and both linger throughout. Plenty of smoke here along with dried cherries and lavender. The suggestion of funk is very welcome here but it refuses to go all the way into that lane. Seriously beautiful aromas. Deep and rich, this is just such a well done Syrah from Santa Barbara. A dash of Grenache is thrown in as well just for good measure. The balance is just right and it’s quite graceful. Nothing like the big fruit bomb pseudo-Pinots we find with other Syrahs, this is all about finesse. On the palate, we’ll find some nice oak to go with the dark berries. Plenty of mint and black pepper to go around. A touch of vegetal notes tops it all off. Superb Santa Barbara goodness. Very hard to beat at this level.
