The archetype of Rancia in the past has been of a big, potent Chianti Classico but in 2018, Rancia is a wine of mind-blowing elegance and finesse. This 2018 vintage has all the elements in place - classic Chianti sangiovese showing cherry, currants, roasted tomatoes and leather, with great acid and tannins. Despite the 5 years of bottle age, I probably opened this Riserva a little early - thankfully I have another to stash away for a few more years, when I think this wine will be at full deliciousness.
