Candied black cherries, star anise and other sweet spices, bit of wood and tobacco. Very nice balance of acidity and tannins. Young but not offensive. Got some elegance to it.

Limpid magenta. Intense, mineral-tinged aromas of ripe red fruits, candied lavender, baking spices and incense show sharp delineation and energetic lift. Palate-staining red and blue fruit preserve flavors are complemented by floral pastille and spicecake qualities that firm up slowly on the back half. Distinctly rich but fresh and structured as well, showing superb finishing clarity, well-knit tannins and lingering floral and mineral notes. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, December 2019)

Had to benchmark this. I adore Cristia, and Chapelle St. Theodoric. Nevertheless, this btl is not as good as the 2011 (at a similar stage) which WAS very Rayas in style. Maybe this btl is off (it certainly doesn't seem like other Guigasse I've had), but this is not Rayas in style at all. At 15% ABV, this is in the des Tours Vacqueyras range, but it doesn't have that aromatic intensity. Rather muddled on the palate, and not silky at all. Hmm, rather disappointing btl in fact. Maybe I'll change my mind after a day of air.
