Old school still. But surprisingly approachable.

Voted WOTN for good reason. This has been a bucket list wine for me. Some sections of this famous vineyard were planted in 1860 but all of the vines are ridiculously old. It’s bombastic and really stands out from the crowd. Very expressive both on the nose and on the palate. Full bodied and multi layered. Creamy and rich texture. Dark berries, plums, coffee, cigar, orange peel, eucalyptus, soy, cigar box and an array of oriental spices. Probably at a peak right now, such a joy to drink.

Almost like port. Went well with cheese.

this is blue chip shiraz - and of the best! incredibly massive nose filled with cool perfumes of blackberry, menthol, black olive, pepper, incense, red soil. after some time coffee liquor and toffee added. it´d easily work as a smelling salt... palatewise i expected a more masculine tannin structure, the wine was ready after half an hour. smooth and fruity and really intense again. great acidity and elegance. personally i stick to northern rhône, really, but this wine is splendid, of course - and not jammy. thank you, daniel!
