Slight match head in the smoky nose is concerning, and rhubarb and cherry are pushed backwards. A shame as this is such a great vintage. The bread element seems leaden, and the herbal aspect, vegetal. The palate consequently feels stewed and disjointed. #chateaulynchbages #lynchbages #2009 #sulphur

The 2009 Lynch-Bages is very well defined on the nose, yet powerful with ample fruit to spare: blackberry, wild strawberry, cranberry mixed with cedar and a light mint touch. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity and lightly spiced with superb focus. It exerts a gentle grip from start to finish, then delivers an engaging, spicy finish that lingers in the mouth. Excellent. Tasted at the Lynch Bages vertical at the château. Never quite hit the heights we were expecting. Graphite pencil and big tannin that never really left were the dominant flavours over 3 days.

The 09 with our 4th course, Cheese w/ Fruits & Nuts. The 09 is so soft & easier to drink young but, I won’t open mine for another 10 years. Loads of dark cassis. Ripe; blackberries, dark cherries, black raspberries & blue fruit hues. Leathery, dark chocolate, dry stones, crushed limestone, cedar, dark but lighter graphite, medium spice, clove, dry herbs, dark dry soil, dry stems, scorched earth and withering dark florals. The structure, tension, length are there screaming to be magnificent. The well balanced finish is very good now but all I can think about is it in another 15 years plus.
