Anthony’s Birthday barbaresco… tastes like that sweet Mojave rain…. Great body, Fantastic length, lots of acidity and aging potential. Great alternative to a Barolo on a great vintage year. Tar. Rose petals. Leather. Quintessentially Nebbiolo, but more approachable.

Winery located in Alba, the Piedmont region was founded by its namesake in 1881. Great Grandson, Pio Boffa, continues the tradition of innovative wine making. Ruby with red fruit aromas and herb floral scents. On the palate sour cherry & dried berries, cinnamon, licorice and herb notes. Full soft tannins bring fruit to long finish ending with earthy mineral. Wonderful! Great now!

Pio Cesare’s 2016 Barbaresco is, quite simply, everything Barbaresco should be. Medium in body and translucent, with a firm backbone of youthful Nebbiolo tannin, the 2016 is captivating from the very first taste. Rose petal, lavender, mint, blood orange and red berry fruit open effortlessly. This is textbook Barbaresco. I loved it. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, October 2020)
