Suckling 93 Points! I have become a serious aficionado of Nerello Mascalese in recent years. The grape is grown on old lava flows on the slopes of Mt. Etna on the island of Sicily (Italy). Grown at significant altitude, the finished wine has nervy acidity and super-fine tannins. The wine possesses the precise balance of very good Burgundy, along with the tar-and-roses fruit character of nebbiolo – a perfect combo! This entry-level bottling from Terre Nere – perhaps the best producer in the region – shows tremendous character, and a ridiculously low price.
