McKinlay Special Selection Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2012

9.29 ratings on Delectable
$38

It's an intense and concentrated wine when first opened, with muscular dark red fruits shot through with minerality, and tinged by flavors of iron, blood and a certain meatiness - a touch of sauvage. Structure is supplied by the acidity, and the fine-grained and perfectly integrated tannins. The wine was aged in barrels, but there is no hint of any new wood on the palate. Decanting is a must at this stage, and after a few hours the wine opens up and takes on a layered character, and becomes very complex and lengthy.

Typical McKinlay, only better. Rose petals, pie cherries, bright fruity acidity, fine tannins. Nice now. Nicest in 10 to 30 years.

This is a very drinkable young wine The wine opens with cherry and cedar and over time scents of fig jam and tobacco. This was a special selection picked by my favorite Portland Oregon wine shop Mt Tabor and as always his selections are special.
