Tenuta Le Potazzine le Potazzine Gorelli Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2016

$105

Tenuta le Potazzine is a small family run winery located in Le Prata, just south west of the walls of town of Montalcino.andnbsp; Guiseppe Gorelli founded the estate with his wife Gigliola Giannetti in 1993 after years of working for the Brunello Consorzio, choosing to purchase vineyards at 500 meters above sea level for the cooler microclimate found there.andnbsp; In 1996 they invested in a second plot of vines further south and at lower elevation of 340 meters in Sant'Angelo in Colle. The vines planted in Le Prata give Le Potazzine's Brunello vibrant aromatics and freshness while those planted in Sant'Angelo in Colle offer more depth and structure.andnbsp; Influenced by his years working side by side with the legendary enologist Guilio Gambelli at the Brunello Consorzio, wine making has always been quite traditional at Le Potazzine; the vineyards are worked organically, and the wines see long macerations without temperature control before 40-42 months in Slavonian oak botti for elevage.

At Locale in Tucson. Nick’s favorite Brunello. Really good. Balanced. First sip out of the bottle great. Fruit at the top, lots of earth after. Delicious. Cool label too.

Upon opening red currant and red brambles lead with some nice herbal notes. Tannins are soft to open, but develop as the wine does. Earthy notes follow as the wine opens up into cherry, cola, and milk chocolate. This vintage is great, and this wine has great potential. Drink in four years, or after.
