The nerdiest and the most complex of the 3 whites poured today. A thinker's white wine as its not just about the complex, elegant flavors but also the texture, being a medium viscosity and tannin from the wine soaking on the skins in a cold pre-ferm soak. Orange wine methods resulting in a lemon-gold fresh and clean wine. #matthiasson

The 2012 Matthiasson Ribolla Gialla is deep gold, the sort of intense, primary Cadmium yellow that is a common thread in Henri Mattisse paintings. It's slightly hazy too, from prolonged fermentation on the skins and stems, with concentrated notes of Bosc pear, preserved lemon and a touch of bitter almond. In the mouth, there is ample concentration and a bit more structure than expected, the finish shows a streak of chalky minerality and a pleasant savory character. 12.8% ABV

Very intense and mineral. Lots of phenolics across the plate. Drinking this wine reminds me of tasting olio nuevo. Delicious.

Sure, this is mineral, but it's also a deceptively fruity wine - not juicy and ripe, but dry and tart like citrus peel, even lightly bitter and prickly on the palate like peach skin. Complemented by flowers, funk, and stones. Needs to breathe, and don't serve too cold. Visceral

A skin fermented Ribolla Gialla that would put most Friulian and Slovenian iterations to shame. Changes remarkably in the glass with notes ranging from crunchy Asian pear and jicama to dried pineapple, ginger, and yellow bell pepper. I can't wait to have this again.

Candied Meyer lemons, ripe yellow peach, kumquat, quince, spice, and hints of tree nuts. Nice acidity and finish. Needs stinky cheese!
