Jacques Lemenicier Cornas AOC Syrah 2014

$49.99

Jacques Lemenicier has been running his namesake domaine in Cornas since the early 80's. At the time he was still working underandnbsp;Alain Voge, one of the most important names in the appellation. He left Voge in 1989 to pursue his own project full time and has now pieced together about 7ha of some impressive, largely higher elevation holdings spread across St. Peray and Cornas. Lemenicier's Cornas is not a Syrah of aggressive tannins or clunky, hulking structure. It shows impressive drive, complexity and intensity and it carries all of its muscle with an unmistakable grace. You'll be thrilled with the 2014 should you decide to open it today. It expresses itself beautifully even without decanting. Lay it down for a few years and it will trade some of its bright fruit for a more earthy, gamy side that will be equally satisfying.

Big fruit great balance. Grapes. Drinking great but still feels like it could go a bit longer

Wow. The woman at the winery warned me that this wine is very ripe and young, and usually would not be suitable for drinking for another 4.5 years. I can see what she means. Huge, ripe blueberry fruit dominates the usual Cornas terroir of lead, granite, thyme and crushed flowers, making for a delicious treat, albeit obviously a baby meant to be brought up properly over the next half decade. Buy and cellar if you can.
