Domaine de la Côte Bloom's Field Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2014

$64.98

After beginning their teamwork with Sandhi and Evening Land Vineyards, former sommelier Rajat Parr and winemaker Sashi Moorman collaborated once more on Domaine de la Cote, working with a andquot;candocirc;teandquot; or andquot;slopeandquot; in Sta. Rita Hills of California. The idea behind the name and the choice of vineyard site was obvious if one knows Parrand#39;s obsession with Burgundy, specifically the Candocirc;te dand#39;Or. The wines of the estate are mapped out similarly to Burgundyand#39;s village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru levels of intensity and quality, though every wine shares the same level of purity and attention to detail in the vineyard. Bloomand#39;s Field is usually one of, if not the most unique wine of the estate, resulting from the vineyardand#39;s iron-rich clay and continuous winds blowing in from the Pacific Ocean. The soils lend an unmistakable savory and spice tone, while the cold winds help the vines shut down at night, preserving a brilliant acidity to counter the natural ripeness that occurs with the good amount of sunshine in the Central Coast. The resulting wines are deep in hue and fruit tone, yet light on their feet with spicy and saline hints carrying the finish. Moorman does not de-stem any of the grapes for this wine, and uses 45% new oak.

Recreation of “Judgement of Paris II” blind Pinot tasting with the addition of a bonus wine from the Central Otago: pale ruby • unfortunately this bottled was corked • the structure suggests more of an Old World style, only 12.5% ABV • product of sommelier Raj Parr and winemaker Sashi Moorman

I've always loved the 2014 Bloom's Field for it's pure cherry-berry fruits, minerality and tension. It's far from a blockbuster, but instead keeps you coming back to the glass with a display that is woodland and somehow autumnal, ripe yet also wiry, precise and juicy to the core. The perfect dinner companion, so to speak, but don't rush it, because this takes a good hour to really get the conversation going. #domainedelacote #pinotnoir #staritahills

Watched Somm III while tasting this and Bodegas Chacra side by side... Didn’t quite get the hype...

Light bodied, almost translucent, red fruit, bright and fresh. Will hold for a while but very enjoyable now.

Subtle, good acidity, texture begins quite smooth and then some of the structure, and whole cluster comes through on the finish. An elegant wine.

This was the wine featured in Somm 3 that was lighter in weight, more elegant & transparent than most Pinots I have tried showing cherry, strawberry, mineral, spice & floral notes showing good balance with nothing out of place.

We roasted a duck, so I immediately went here. As Burgundian as I’ve experienced from USA though lacking a tad in complexity. Extraordinarily light. Nose is a cohesive, complex elegant perfume of rose and unripened cherry; the star of the show. Palette shows fresh cranberry, mint. Soft but expressive acid.
