Deltetto is a small family owned winery in the Roero Hills just to the north of Barolo and Barbaresco.andnbsp; Thisandnbsp;estate produces some very notable Nebbiolo wines but the real marquee wine here is made from Arneis, a grape that thrives in the sandy hills of the region. The San Defendente pinnacle bottling from Deltetto with a rich, creamy texture, bright acidity and subtle hints of almond blossom laid over ripe stone fruit.andnbsp; These wines are certified organic and made by sisters Cristina and Claudia with the assistance of their brother Carolo and mother Graziella. Proceeds from San Defendente go to support Casa Delle Donna, a center devoted to protecting women from gender-related violence. The front label was designed Elisa Deltetto and pictures the Mashe , the witches of Piedmontese folk-lore. They were considered mysterious and threatening not only because of their purported supernatural powers but because of their complete independence in Piedmontese society. The Deltetto family take the Mashe as an inspiration and proudly display them on the front label!
