Colombera & Garella Lessona Pizzaguerra Nebbiolo Blend 2017

Cristiano Garella, formerly of the famed Tenuta Sella, his friend Giacomo Colombera, and Giacomo's father, Carlo, are turning out some of the most exciting wines we've found in Northern Piedmont. This is a diverse and special region where talented hands and motivated young producers have begun to unlock the potential of some fascinating and historic terroir. The Colombera andamp; Garella wines are impressive in their own right but are especially attractive given the extreme quality that they display at such modest prices. Their Lessona shows the most distinction from the wines of Barolo, highlighting the airy minerality of Nebbiolo with grace and lift rather than overt power. The soil here is dominated by red marine sand that allows the elegance of Nebbiolo to shine through. Only around 5% of the wine is Vespolina, included to add a nice spicy cut to a profoundly mineral Nebbiolo wine. Typically, this is the Candamp;G bottling that most demands a few years in the cellar and rewards a bit more patience handily.
