Montalcino has been blessed with a series of strong vintages over the past few years, and 2012 has all the early signs of being a special one. The hot weather throughout much of the year led many to believe that this would be an especially ripe, bordering overripe crop, but a nice spell of rain towards the end of the summer kept the heat's influence at bay. The best wines show solid ripeness and impressive concentration in a comfortably medium bodied package. Antonio Galloni recently remarked that andldquo;Canalicchio di Sopra has leapt ahead of quite a few estates in grabbing an increasingly firm spot among Montalcinoand#39;s elite.andrdquo; Having just tasted the 2012 ourselves, it's clear this vintage will only further elevate their status. This is a fine, silky specimen that will be sure to rank among the best of the vintage.

Muted nose. Very subtle. Light for a Brunello. Pretty cherry fruit. Great internal aromatics though. Integrated. Silky tannins.
