Le Ragnaie was founded by the Campinoti family in 2002 with the purchase of a winery surrounded by 6 hectares of vines, including some of the highest elevation vines in the zone at 620 meters above sea level. They immediately began the conversion to organics achieving certification in 2009 while also diversifying their vineyard holdings, acquiring vines in Petroso just outside of Montalcino proper as well as several plots in Castelnuovo dell'Abate further to the south (bordering famous neighbors like Poggio di Sotto and Stella di Campalto). Riccardo Campinoti's prime holdings allow him to work very traditionally in the winery and still yield extremely elegant wines; marathon macerations last as long as 90 days in cement and elevage is typically 3 years in large botti.andnbsp; The 2016 Brunello is a quintessential wine of Montalcino; Floral with deep red and black fruit on the nose. The palate is firm but not opaque, with vibrant acidity and ripe tannins.andnbsp; While it is quite easy to enjoy today, this wine should really hit its stride in 5-7 years and continue to drink for many years beyond.
