The Reserva is a wine made from oldest vines near the village of Aguilera. Here the vineyards are mainly Tempranillo, but like old vines everywhere, there are many other varieties, red and white, mixed in. Rather than separate these varieties Jorge feels that a true representation of these sites is best captured by co-fermenting them. This cuvee sees the longest maceration before aging in barrel for nearly three years - half of that time waiting for the malolactic fermentation to finish! This slow elevage results in a wine with remarkable poise and complexity.

Dark and inky garnet color. Aromas and flavors of smokey vanilla, wet earth, with an herbal note of sage over the top of the black fruits which are still coming through nicely. Super savory and meaty tannins and stark acidity tell me this can age infinitely!

Bold and elegant at the same time capturing the intensity of the vintage with a delicious dark fruit core of dark cherries, blackberries, plums, with discreet floral notes of violets and lavender, some licorice, roasted meats, torrefact notes, and Indian spices. Captivating sappy texture as it enters the palate, it seems harmonious with sweet red and dark fruit flavors on entry followed by licorice and hints of dark chocolate, a nice refreshing balsamic midpalate with chalky mineral notes that lead to a deliciously savory meaty finish filled with sweet spices, and creamy velvety tannins. This is distinctly very Ribera in character but much more refreshing and elegant.
