Dom Pérignon P2 Brut Champagne Blend 1996

$1250

There is an apparent paradox, with concentration and movement vying for ascendancy. The structure of the wine is tense and assertive. Its energy, almost tactile, is contained for a moment before vibrating and exploding. Its opulence then becomes superbly persistent, trenchant and persuasive.Praline rapidly combines with citron and dried figs. Darker underlying iodine and peaty notes also emerge. When the wine has reached its optimal stage of maturity it will be released as Oenotheque. To guarantee the excellence of the wine, each Oenotheque bottle is tasted at disgorging by a Dom Perignon wine maker. The 1996 Oenotheque initially presents with aromas of citron and dried figs. These aromas segue into darker underlying notes of iodine and peat. On the palate, there is a a competition of concentration and movement against ascendancy. The tense structure of the wine provides an exciting energy which is contained momentarily before vibrating and exploding. The opulence of the wine then proceeds to become persistent and persuasive.

Very good. Fresh at the front with lovely lemon oil and chalk. Some secondary notes but fresh and lovely, and a real long finish. Delicious.

Fabulous. Really needed a lot of air to be at its most expressive, so if you are planning to drink it, open well in advance. FYI - the first release of this wine was labeled Oenotheque, later releases were labeled P2.

A hint of sweetness. Lovely steely languid fruit. Open and lush and delicious.

This was sick! Vivid and uplifting. Creamy ripe yellow apple, white orchard flowers and half baked bread dough. Conveys nothing but class and complexity. From the eye guy @Andrew Steffensmeier

Simply the best wine made by Dom- layered, deep mineralogy and complexity of fresh citrus, stone fruits and some lovely tropical notes. Long life ahead and one of the best 96's tasted.

Near perfection! Brioche, lemon, and minerals. The acidity is well integrated and leaves a pleasant pucker and a long finish.

Wine was muted.... just didn't show much at all. Came after the Selosse.
