Valbuena is often referred to as Vega Sicilia's second wine. Though this helps to simplify the conversation and brings up well-deserved comparisons between Vega Sicilia and the great growths of Bordeaux, it is not strictly so. In fact, Valbuena is more like the flagship wine ? it is the largest-production cuv?e and the one that the winery believes best expresses the house style. 2007 was a vintage in the Ribera that was marked by lower-than-average temperatures over the course of the summer, resulting in a slow, even maturation and a relatively late harvest. The 2007 is a superbly-structured and richly spiced example of this bottling which will reward extended cellaring. 80% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), 20% Merlot and Malbec. Aged for three years in new and used French and American barrels as well as large neutral oak vats. Two years of additional aging in bottle

45+ minute decant. Dark red color with some bricking. Nose smelled like it was corked with dried plums and must. Palate was totally different. Lovely texture, cedar, dark cherries, and graphite. Medium plus depth and nice finish.
