Krug Grande Cuvée Brut Champagne Blend NV (375ml)

$85

This half-bottle has spent over 6 years ageing in the Krug cellars gaining depth, harmony, finesse and elegance. It has received its cork in autumn 2014. This half-bottle is an extraordinary blend of 127 wines from 11 different vintages, the oldest from 1990 and the youngest from 2008. Every glass of this bottle of Krug Grande Cuvee is the fruit of more than 20 years of craft and patience. 2008 was characterised by homogeneity, marked by remarkably expressive and generous Meunier. Thanks to a selection of rich and deep reserve wines, combined with particularly balanced wines from 2008, the resulting blend is truly harmonious, amplifying the character, purity and texture of Krug Grande Cuvee. The final composition of this Krug Grande Cuvee is: 48% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay and 17% Meunier.

MJ’s cellar is awe-inspiring. Once again, an absolutely pristine old wine from his cold, cold cellar - a 1980’s Krug Grande Cuvée! A first for me and gosh it blew me away. Still so fresh and energetic, yet rich and concentrated, all intensified by time. Complex aromas of orange peel, dried apricot, dehydrated apples, lemon oil, marzipan, and a touch of sherry. Full-bodied, textured, and deep on the palate, with mellow honeyed notes mind-bogglingly juxtaposed against zesty citrus notes; some cream and sweet spices, high acidity, and heaps of salinity. Gosh was this good.

World premiere of the 170 edition. A dazzling streak of acidity runs through this. Soft composed lemon notes and a subtle minerality. Quite light at the moment. It needs some time in bottle to flesh out but great material

The new bottling of the 169 was showing extremely well in a 375ml.

Looks to be a bottle from the 80s mature rich and complex . Toffee , brioche, mushrooms kept in check by golden delicious apple fruit . This is a winner and it’s nice to have a grand cuvée with age since most of these get drunk way to young !
