The Big Three, Part Two: Peyrassol

MCF Rare Wine

It's trying to become Spring here in NY.

One of these days we'll get there, and perhaps buying a bunch of yummy pink wine from one of the most iconic Provençal estates that we sell will 'will' it into existence.

Whether or not that works is of little consequence I suppose, because the most important thing is getting stocked up so that, come those warm Summer afternoons and evenings, there is plenty of this glorious juice on hand to keep those glasses full.

The 'Chateau', in its slender, elegant bottle, is a study in fine, focused energy and herbaceous, briny minerality.  This ballerina of a wine never ceases to amaze me with its ability to be so dazzling/engaging while simultaneously being so well-mannered.

There's a reason it's the perennial favorite.

Then we have the 'Clos', with its thick, heavy bottle (with a punt you can eat cereal out of), which, in just two vintages (it was previously unavailable in the US), has certainly found itself vying for the top of the Rosé heap in my book.

If you take the same sublime, expressive elegance that one gets from the Chateau and ratchet up the density, intensity and structure (without sacrificing any of that genteel quality, that is), you end up with the Clos.

While the Chateau certainly will age nicely for a year or three, this Clos is definitely the 'Rosé de Garde' of the Peyrassol lineup.  The seemingly endless amount of character that is so tightly packed into this wine is pretty spectacular.

So while $42 may seem lofty for a Rosé, it's truly a value when you consider the deliciousness per sip, especially when mature.

Which brings me to my next point - if you're smart (and have the self-control), you'll lay at least some of your Clos down for a more robust and flavorful expression to be enjoyed next Summer (or some other season not named Summer).

These are still the most sought-after Rosés that we offer, especially come July/August, when they've long since sold out and everyone's still jonesing for more.

So don't be a joneser.

Go deep now.
