Generally digging all the second wines I've tried of the 2014 vintage. Drinking nicely so young.

Bright and fresh, with some interesting salinity. Nicely balanced. Overachiever for a 2nd wine. In a great place right now.

Deep ruby, violet color, full bodied. Creme de cassis and tobacco dominant on the nose, with black cherry, blackberry, raspberry, liquorice, cedar box, mocha. Black chocolate, mocha, liquorice and black fruits on the palate. Bone dry, more grip than Reserve de la Comtesse 2012. Some green component, 30s+ finish. 13% alc. 2012 vintage

I guess we got stuck in Bordeaux this weekend. This time Pauillac. I took the picture against our granite counter top because that was what the wine reminded. Earthy minerally, graphite mixed in with dark dry fruit drippings. Classic Pauillac. Just the best with these ‘Idaho Grown’ French fries.

In great vintages, second wines from pedigree Chateauxs are always a safe bet, and this is no exception. Pretty open on the nose, indicating its readiness, while hidden tannins and iron/blood-like flavours on the palate suggests waiting is clever, as it’s still one dimensional and needs time to fully express itself.
