Cantina Vignaioli (Elvio Pertinace) Vigneto Nervo Barbaresco Nebbiolo 1998

$74.99

Cantina Vignaioli Elvio Pertinace Vigneto Nervo Barbaresco 1998 subtly wafts out of the glass like a warm fall day in Piedmont, with notes of dried and stewed cherries and raspberries intermingling among fallen leaves, white truffles, and recently departed rose petals. The Palate is full yet soft, leaving the lingering sensation of what were at one point quite forceful tannins and gushing acids. The finish follows up on the promise of the nose, leaving a long, lingering, taste of earth, truffles, and a surprising yet welcome kiss of chocolate.

Mature. But delicious. Red to brown in color which on open was a little alarming until we sipped on this for over an hour as it continued to open up. What a treat.

High tone of brett and VA on the nose with some elements of raisin. The medicinal component continues through to the palate with some raspberry compote. Fruit was left out on the vine too long - tastes cooked and high alcohol burns a little too much going down. Past peak - drink now.

Almost past it's prime. Developing some major tertiary flavors on the back end.

Beautiful wine to share with friends at L'Hostaria in Aspen. Beautiful nose , long finish, smooth tannins. More brilliant garnet red than expected . Good for years to come if you can get it.
