Opulent Cab fruit with a Savory and earthy edge. Brings a bit more nuance to the finish and keeps you checking back into the glass for another layer of depth.

Still rather tight and rough. Lots of tannin. Lovely nose of vanilla and unripe berries, overly bitter finish. Can use plenty of time to age and soften.

This wine was a bit of a chameleon. It opens up with an intense nose. The heat is almost palpable. And this, too, after a two hour decant. At first, there was great sense of dark roasted coffee on the nose. This sense carried though to the palate. Savory chocolate, deep cedar and anise. Little fruit. Very very structured. Firm tannins. Then, hour three and things change. Well, sort of change because, after all, a chameleon is still a chameleon. The nose still reminds me of waking into a Starbucks. A slight bit of nutmeg has been added. But, the fruit has now found some legs on the palate. Not fruit forward. Still dark, but now the blackberries are talking. The oak has also revealed itself which results in a more rounded mouthfeel. The tannins have softened also. Overall, a very interesting wine. Not sure that I'd buy again, but a pleasant intellectual journey.
