Beauty. Multi-layered and complex. Lots of earthy notes hitting on the tail-end. This is a well-made wine.

A little disappointing, seemingly quite thin and falling short on various notes. I have another bottle, which I’ll leave for another 5-10 years - I do believe this is a wine with ageing potential.

In 1879, two brothers decided to set up a wine business, C.V.N.E., Compañía Vinicola del Norte de España (The Northern Spanish Wine Company) or la Cuné, as it is commonly known in Haro, was created and still kept in the traditional neighborhood of the Haro station today. Very deep red with dark berry aromas and complex spices. On the palate blackberry, cherry and sweet currant with herb, leather and pepper spice. Fine tannins, well balanced showing depth and structure on a lingering finish with room to age. Tasting Sample.

Smooth tannins. Fine, but I much prefer the Imperial

It’s good. There’s a lack of finish for me. No excitement.

Nine years after the vintage, this is a classic Rioja seemingly evolving for many years. We enjoyed it with friends enjoying an early Christmas dinner. We originally tried this vintage three or four years ago when it seemed more fiery. We commented at the time that it would make a great taco wine. While that may still be true, it has smoothed out considerably. Not a robust wine by any means, but a great sipper with friends.

My “house” Rioja. Sure there are betterRioja out there, but one will be hard pressed to find one better than the this Gran Reseva bottling at $19.99. And 2010 is a great vintage. This bottle is hitting its strike now. Abundance of red and dark fruits framed by earthy elements, balanced by bright but not aggressive acidity. Oaky note - not that it was prominent - has faded a bit. Supple tannins lead to a well balanced finish.
