Domaine Michel Lafarge Vendanges Sélectionnées Volnay Pinot Noir 2009

$69

Domaine Michel Lafarge personifies what makes Volnay so adored by Burgundy purists. The sun kissed quality of this village is always handled so beautifully by the hands of Michel and son, Frédéric. Balance is always what stands out the most to us at this domaine. The wines are never highly extracted, or oaky, instead they rely on gorgeous floral tones, pristine fruit, and diamond cut minerality to tell the story of each site. The Volnay "Vendanges Sélectionnées" is one of the great villages wines of Burgundy. It is a special selection of the best clusters from the very oldest vines.

Little bit of TCA that came out the second day. Nice but underwhelming.

Totally shut down, check back in a few years. The good thing that what was apparent were NO traces of heat or over ripeness from the warm 2009 vintage.

Have had a lot of bottle variation with this one. This might the last bottle we have and unfortunately it didn’t sing. For some reason I just can’t love this wine.

After a few hours of air this actually comes together. I was a bit skeptical coming in based on past bottles I’ve had. Bit too much acid that pokes out. Could be more complete and interesting but this is nice overall. Better with more air - comes together more. Editing up.

Sappy red fruits. Mineral background. Very nice. Fairly light. Double decanted. Tasted after an hour and a half.

Excellent Burgundy, drinking great but has some ability to still age.
