Peter Lauer Réserve Sekt Riesling 1984

$89.99

33 year old Riesling! Drinking this makes one feel like a kid in a candy store: wide -eyed excitement, and complexity overwhelmed by the experience. Deep caramel wheat notes are highlighted by wonderful herbal characteristics and a saline like slate minerality. A mist try got bubbles aficionados; especially since this is the cost of most NV Champagne!

Nose has sea salted ripe peach slice, watermelon rind, browned yellow apple slice, tangerine peel and crushed seashells. Palate has tart nectarine, lime zest, under-ripe green apple, faint peach notes with light salinity on the long finish. By far the most youthful presentation of our recent bottles (92/88/84), plenty of verve and tension left here, acids are still strong, energetic but fading bubbles. Notable evolution with more air time in the Gabriel-Glas. Disgorged June 2017

1984 Sekt!?!? It will rock your world. Marzipan and butterscotch and toasted bread with lemon preserves and honey. Yowza!

Okay a few more sparklings from last weekend I need to catalogue. Slightly funky, slightly savory, and still ever so fresh. Love the Sekt!

The best sparkling tea you will ever drink...depending on the day. The notes are so deep that I can’t imagine ever having the same experience with this wine twice.

Just disgorged--toasty and baked orchard fruit, a little autolytic, unmistakeably Riesling. Herbal finish. Quite dry. Excellent with sushi

Toffee, butterscotch, dried orange peel....complex in its tertiary state on the nose. However, the palate has lift from vibrant, searing acidity with dominate fresh green apple notes and an apple skin bitterness. Finishes nicely with a hint of lemongrass and an aldehyde, fino Sherry-like dryness. Reminds me of the mouth-watering caramel apples I’d look forward to in the autumns of my youth.
