Without a doubt the most Burgundian Cali Pinot I’ve had the pleasure of drinking. This has the darkest red fruit - raspberry, black cherry and super-ripe pomegranate, with a core of musky, skunky fresh turned composty soil, mushrooms, red and purple flowers, and lots of spice. Another really impressive but not at all surprising expression from John Lockwood. One of my favorite CA winemakers. I’ve already inquired about getting more of this. Enjoyed with herb- and lemon zest-rubbed wild local salmon (slow grilled with mesquite smoke), pearl couscous and an herby garden salad.

Wound up but will be great in time.

Mag. Lots of life ahead for one of the most impressive Cali pinots I’ve ever tasted. Love the depth of the dark cherry fruit and crunchy, earthy stone soup character. Clearly it knocked the socks off of that pheasant in the background

Consistent with other notes I read. Strawberry, rhubarb, cranberry and a dash of white pepper. Some tannins from whole clusters and wonderful acidity! I usually turn to John Lockwood for Syrah, but he sells me on any wine he produces. Real finesse!

I second @Anthony Lombardi below on this, perfect description--deftly charts a course between Burgundian finesse and Cali fruit. Whole cluster tannins and limestone minerality undergird plush cherry, raspberry, rhubarb and flower petals.

Fun tasting at Weygandt Wines with John Lockwood. The third of four wines being poured and first red. Medium garnet red with a ruby core. A bit singular to start with a medium intensity floral attack. After a few minutes in the class, red berries carried throughout and the floral notes morphed into a spiced finish or white pepper. Medium tannins (5/10) and medium acidity (6/10) on the palate. Light body and fresh. Lots of red berries on the palate; strawberries, raspberries and a touch of rhubarb. Stoney notes and acidity carry from the mid palate through the long and lingering finish. Drink till 2024. This wine is made up of 100% Pinot Noir. 50% whole cluster and aged in neutral hogshead barrels (350L) for 12 months.

Elegant & finessed Pinot. Shows NSG spice, gevrey power and never loses that California fleshy fruit. Has a fantastic tension between acidic brightness and earthy minerality as it opens up. Brilliant stuff.

Still a bit tight, but showing its limestone soils and minty goodness with subtle red fruit. Hoping to have leftovers to check on this on day two, but that might be difficult as it's quite drinkable now.
