Clos De La Roilette Clos de la Roilette Fleurie Gamay 2018

$24.99

Considered one of the most admired producers in Fleurie, with wines that are beautiful when young and have the capacity to age for over 10 years. This particular terroir (mainly clay and manganese) and the age of the vines (25-33 years old) account for the richness of the wine. It has a deep color with a hint of purple, a restrained nose of crème de cassis, a rich, full mouth with flavors of cassis and black cherries tinged with a nutty character, and finishes with zesty acidity. This is a wine that ages gracefully and takes on the aromatic character of a Pinot Nior.

Much better than first bottle-less on the creosote and more on the primary fruit, which is gorgeous. Has the body and edge ofMoulin A Vent, not Fleurie, which I’ve said before here. Flat out one of my fave 25$and under wines, period.

Beguiling black fruit... ripe plums, cassis, bramble fruit, jam and charcoal. Silky, full bodied bojo with a hint of licorice on the palate. Coudert is the best- for sure best qpr in Beaujolais. Missing a touch of acidity but 2018 seems like a good vintage nonetheless.

An old standby. And god Fleurie generates such pretty gamay—fresh picked cherries, ripe strawberry, floral, clean and bright.

The Coudert family makes cellar-worthy Fleurie that’s also delicious on the young side. The 2018 shows the expressive dark fruit of the vintage, but there’s real finesse on display as well. Enjoy it now with grilled chicken or through fall and winter with Coq au Vin or mushroom-centric dishes. $25.00 (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, September 2019)

I was lucky to acquire a stash of this and it’s been something of a “house wine” during quarantine. It was a slow burn: deep, heavy, even a bit “oaky” (in a Burgundian sense), not what I typically want from a Fleurie. It is now a favorite... maybe because of all those attributes.

Look for the fleurie with the horse on the label. Excellent pairing with a Flannery mismatch New York strip.
