Lifted aromas of rose water, savory mushroom, fresh and juicy raspberry and strawberry, prune, clove, stem, spearmint, and citrus oil the nose. Uber tart tomato, sour cherry, leather, tar, and mint on the palate. High acidity, long finish. Tight tannins.

My first words when tasting this wine, spat out almost along with the liquid in my mouth, were ‘holy shit’. For various reasons: the incredible follow-on from what was a very intoxicating nose; the explosion of searingly dry acidity and tannin on the palate; and, ultimately, the tremendous quality (and value) of this wine. Locked and loaded with tart cherry, strawberry compote, umami, menthol, violet and tar, this is a profoundly complex Barbaresco built for the long haul. It’s far too young now - almost undrinkably so (almost..) even after a five hour decant - but everything’s there. The finish, though it drags every last vestige of moisture from your mouth with it, is delightfully long. I shan’t touch any more of these for at least another five years, but can’t wait to do so.

16s are pretty. $40 for killer Barbaresco still remains one of the top values in the wine world. Love PdB.

The 2016 Barbaresco is a stunning wine with tremendous richness for this bottling. Ample, deep and powerful, the 2016 exudes pedigree and class from start to finish. I can't remember a straight Barbaresco here with this much fruit density and unctuous richness, and yet there is more than enough tannin and overall structure to give the wine its classically leaning feel. A blast of sweet red cherry fruit, tobacco, menthol licorice and smoke hits the potent finish. What a wine! (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2019)

This is going to be killer when it's mature. Red fruits and floral with high acid and tannin. Need to find more.

It is a great success this 2016. So young still but much better than the 2015. This one is much more on red fruit, licorice and roses. I found the 2015 much more rustic and lacked the fruit component. On the palate, the acidity and tanins are moderately strong. Needs time to open (decant for sure if opening now, I can't stress this enough). A very interesting length on the palate. A wine that has the stuffing to go the distance but which can also be opened in a few years because of its fruit in the foreground.

A little disappointed based on vintage. expected it to be explosive from nose to finish. nose was great, entry and taste were great, the finish missed it for me. Felt a bit too stubborn in the tannins. by no means terrible, come back to this in a couple of years.

Gonna be a stunner with some age on it, if only I can keep myself from drinking it beforehand! Great QPR.

Red fruit and thin margin. Light garnet color. Highly tannic and medium high acid. Beautiful wine.
