2019 vintage. A bit more Merlot than Cabernet, but the latter seems to dominate the nose.

Estate was founded in the late 17th Century. This period was known as the Grand Siecle, or "great century", in reference to Louis XIV's 1661 accession to the French throne. This second label from Pichon Baron is deep Ruby with aromas of black fruits, cacao and sweet spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry and black cherry with espresso, cacao and licorice. Fine tannins, long finish, ending with fruit, cedar and spice.

In great vintages, second wines from pedigree Chateauxs are always a safe bet, and this is no exception. Pretty open on the nose, indicating its readiness, while hidden tannins and iron/blood-like flavours on the palate suggests waiting is clever, as it’s still one dimensional and needs time to fully express itself.

The 2015 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron is dense, powerful and quite juicy, with plenty of black cherry, menthol, licorice and smoke overtones nuances that all build in the glass. Polished and racy to the core, the 2015 is a terrific choice for drinking over the next decade or so. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2018)

Similar to the 2016. Does not get better with age but good nevertheless.

Quite good - a rich nose, crushed dark fruit, jammy, with a metallic note. A little smooth on the palate, but good weight.

Supple, beautiful, slight chalky. Needs a bit more tile to express but a beautiful bottle.
