A great wine in the making but the residual sugar still very pronounced and needs time for the pit fruit to harmonize with the smoke, stone and herbal elements

J. J. Prüm’s 2017 Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese is a powerful Riesling that should blossom with more time in bottle. A little muted on the nose at the moment, but the palate is stunningly delicate, and taut: a piquant display of intensely ripe, fleshy fruit, salinity and high acidity that keeps it all in balance. This is a stunning wine in the making.
