The 2014 Domaine de Chevalier has always been an impressive wine for the vintage. This has a superb bouquet with blackberry, graphite, sea spray and pressed roses, which are very well-defined and classy. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant, fine tannins, a keen line of acidity, fresh with white pepper and allspice towards the harmonious and precise finish. This is a Pessac-Léognan ratcheting through the gears - recommended. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, March 2024)

2014 vintage. This is the red. 65% Cab Sauv, 30% Merlot, 5% PV. Nose opened up after 45 mins with some sea salt, allspice, currant and cherry notes. Medium to medium+ body. Fairly plushy and cushioned on the finish. Tannins are there if you want ‘em but that Petit Verdot really steals the show at the end. A modicum of mint + baking chocolate make an appearance as well. Still clinging to a small paunch of baby fat which should fall off in another two years. The tumblers are clicking but the combination isn’t totally there just yet. Give it another 3-4 years but pretty dayum delish right now.

Drinking in 2024. Exceptional balance with a nice nose of blackberry and salt. Spice, full but fine tannins on the palate. Moderate length finish that is a bit confused. Let it open up for least 30 mins.

2014 vintage. Tasted six times in the last 3.5 years. Mostly a mix of 9.3-9.4 scores with most of the experiences decanted. This time, decanted as well, with the wine in a slight state of transition. Medium-heavy bod with appropriate sed. Great nose and frontal/mid palates, Slightly disjointed on the finish with different flavors working against each other vs together. Tasted after 30 mins and one hour open and thinking a bit more time could have helped. 8.21.24.

2014 vintage. This is the rouge. Last (proper bottle not compromised) tasted 3.2.23 (9.3). From Coravin. Lost the baby fat. Still medium/medium-heavy body but really starting to embrace and pump out leaner flavors. Underrated producer (the white doesn’t suck either) and the wines are underpriced relative to the market. Plenty of further development expected. May even bump up a notch on the next visit. 5.9.24.

2014 vintage. Decanted with trace of sed. A little flat. Not corked or obviously abused but missing that Chevalier love. Expected (and have always received) more. Maybe in a period of transition. 12.15.23.
