2012 vintage. Dark red with little evolution. Black fruits in a tight, but velvety tannic structure. Impressive depth for the vintage. Drinking well,but I believe it will still improve with further bottle age. Abv. 13,5%.

The 2012 Rauzan-Ségla has a similar colour to the 2015 although it has a hard time competing with the delineation, the crystalline nature of the 2015. Yet it compensates with the sheer aromatic flamboyance. This has really opened up in the last 18 months or so, quite lush and precocious black fruit, loam and iris, just a slight hint of bell pepper emanating from the small amount of Cabernet Franc. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin. There is a lovely seam of acidity here that lends the 2012 a sense of focus. It is not a deep or lavish Rauzan-Ségla, in some ways a little more conservative than I recall. There is fine grip on the saline finish, perhaps a Margaux that is just beginning to close up for a while? This still has great potential. Tasted at the Rauzan-Ségla vertical at the château. Medium to full bodied. Tannins integrated perfectly. Plum notes. Medium dark fruit. Complexity on the aroma. Red and dark fruit intertwined. Slightly earthy. Pleasing finish at 30 to 40 seconds. Has the legs to go a long time. For many of us, “Why postpone pleasure?” ! Drinking well now!

As dark and inky as they come from around here. Initial bouquet of boysenberry and Ferro-Rochet. Needs a good long spin in the decanter to show what it's got but with time I find a pure cassis core draped in chocolate and cedar notes with gorgeous balance and lift despite its youth

Had the 2005 last week, interesting to compare the two. This obviously has more fresh dark red fruit with a savory herbal note. A touch of green tannin that the 2005 lacked, think it will settle into the velvety 2005. Very classic Bordeaux, a benchmark.
