Black cherry, gravel, and just a hint of green pepper on the nose. Shows the concentration of the vintage with black cherry, cocoa, and earth in the palate. Quite tannic on the finish, which goes on for quite a while. Perhaps a bit simple, but overall a nice wine. 4/22/7/3/4 +50 = 90 pts.

Nose has new leather, blackberry syrup, black cherry, chocolate, dried leaves and a touch of alcohol. Palate has dried cherry, chalk, blackcurrant, dark chocolate and blackberry. 3 hours of decanting, more time is needed. A very young wine, enjoyed from 375ml, in hopes that we'd see a little more advancement. A nice comparison to a 2009 version (750ml) we also enjoyed this evening. I'll take the nose of the '09 but the palate of the '15, tonight.

Finish has a lot of acid and good tannin with a blackberry note. Solid finish over palette. Revisit: nose is strong with pepper and palette has dark fruit bites. Finish still isn’t as strong as I wish.

Like a spicy hot chocolate. Pepper, graphite and fruity nose. Blackberry, licorice, spice and toasted sugar. Medium tannins

Classic earth, graphite. A little early to drink even with a 2 hour decant but very good nevertheless.

2015 vintage. Nose giving up the usual dark cherry/dark plum combo. Dark berryfest along with a touch of cedar and graphite coating a 45-second finish. Projected top of the bell curve is 2026-2029. Has started the transition from youthful exuberance to elder statesperson. Right now, super and explosive.

Drank this way too young. It could easily use 5-8 more years. Started to open up after about an hour of decanting. Good structure, black fruit, cedar.

2015 is an especially generous vintage for Meyney. The signature dark cherries and chocolate shavings take center stage, paving way for what is one of my favorite weeknight reds of the vintage. The tannins are a bit drying now and in need of some time, but in 4-5 years this is going to peak for a solid decade or more.
