I’ve never been much of a Bordeaux fan but this was a great wine. Tons of complexity and was very pleased it was a clean wine! Got the graphite/pencil lead notes that I was hoping for.

Heck of a hosting by @Weston Eidson last night for the City Club wine group. All wines were tasted blind. Cerebral and spectacular. Best Bordeaux I’ve had. A stunning showing at 19yrs young. I called this early 2000s Bordeaux but actually thought it was Right Bank...there is a gorgeous medley of soft and ripe dark blue and black fruit here. Not juicy, but more floral and expressive. Palate was lifted with fantastic structure and softened tannins (thanks to 4hrs in the decanter). Pipe tobacco but hardly any herbal or leather notes. The softness of this wine is what made it a star. Flavor without being dense. Co WOTN.

3+ hour decant and it was just so velvety smooth. Still young, but what a beautiful wine.

Dark black fruit with aromas of tar to back and leather on the mouth good mid plate lots of acid black fruit. With four hours in the decanter can see it will one day be lovely but needs another ten years

I've never felt the 2000 vintage lived up to its billing and this is a perfect example. Good but not great. At 15 years, it should be more expressive and multidimensional. I'd like to check in five or ten years to see if it progresses from this point. I'm not so sure.

To me the most complex wine of the night offering a deep cerebral experience, with what I thought of as a berry bouquet garni was the 2000 Haut-Brion. The most contemplative, while also a deeply pleasurable wine, offered layers of classic Bordeaux notes of toast, coffee, currants, cassis, subtle & smokey campfire embers, cigar box...the list goes on and most of that was in the nose. The palate was texturally seamless, packed and stacked with structure that never got in the way, though you would notice it on the finish letting you know it was there. 2005 was locked up and unrelenting at first, the second go an hour later was more repenting but it was still not nudging much. A thoroughly excellent wine, but just not revealing much beyond the hints of its greatness. #hautbrion #pessacleognan #bordeaux #wine
