Super dark and deep purple. High intensity that completely coats the glass. Even after an hour decanting this still needs more. Very tight on the nose with a little savory with super dark berries, even some herbs, gravel and anise. Although tight, the complexity is very intriguing and enticing. Thick palate with moderate plus tannins (7.5/10) which carry throughout the long, full and slightly dry finish. Minerality on the palate intermingled with small dark berries. More blackberries and black cherries with a little bit of savory herbs and a little spicy around hour two. Very extracted, a little strict with tons of potential. Needs some time to develop and open up those layers. Drink from 2017 till 2027.

Sipping Fine Wine

In the Spring of 1993, publisher, Patrick O'Dell, purchased Johnson Turnbull Vineyards and renamed the property Turnbull Wine Cellars. Dark red with aromas of fresh crushed berry fruit with earthy tones. On the palate cherry and blackberry flavors with pepper spice, tobacco and cacao on fine dusty tannins. Lingering finish ending with a mineral character.

Smooth, not too dense, slightly fruity. Great with steak.

Astringent, fruit , and balance . Drinks great now but could sit down for some time and get better .

What a welcomed surprise! I would put this in comparison to Hall's cab, which I absolutely love for the QPR. The nose is filled with blueberries, blackberries, and cassis. Tastes of licorice & dark fruited pie. Yes, please.

The wine is Turnbull 2013 cabernet sauvignon from my favorite region: Napa Valley , Oakville, California. Just north of Opus One and Robert Mondavi - highway 29 baby! The cork was perfect. The color is purple and black with no trace of any brown. No I do not like ancient wines that turn brown. After last nights experience, I need this napa cab! The bouquet is ripe figs blowing in the wind with a hint of blackberry jam and a hint of an unlit maduro cigar. The legs are thick, slow, and long. The initial palate is blackberry , blueberry, and figs with a tart finish that is ever so long. I have not decanted long enough because I could not wait to try it. There is a hint of spice but more oak and leather on the finish. it is very dry and leaves me thirsty for more or a blast of water then more of this delicious wine from Turnbull winery, where they grow them and bottle them! Dang I need to get back to California! Buy this one, you cant go wrong!

Lovely wine. Good QPR for classic Cabernet, black fruit, tobacco, nice finish.

Loads of potential - a long decant is necessary if you open in the next 2-3 years but there's good dark fruit and grippy tannin. Looking forward to my next one a bunch of years from now.
