Lioco Hanzell Vineyard Chardonnay 2013

Lioco is one of the “New California’s” great micro-negociants, making wines that convey everything that California can be, without obscuring flavors or terroir with too-high alcohol or manipulation. Hanzell Vineyard, of course, is one of California’s great, historic sites (they have the oldest continuously producing Chardonnay vines in America) and has made some of its most important Chardonnays. Put them together and you get a spectacular Chardonnay of weight and depth, but with mineral cut and oodles of freshness!

Old vine 100% Hanzell- barrel fermented and finished in tank? I'm soooo happy right now.

Exceptional minerality and crushed rock aromas with powerful malic acid notes. Wonderfully rounded. A joy to drink wine sourced from such a historic vineyard!

Balance, texture, expansive mouth feel, this is California chardonnay I can get behind.

No oak or pineapple... a good thing for me. Great acid

Limes, creamy lees, white nectarines, steel, candied nuts, pears. Great texture and density. Palate has a nice richness that is balanced by the acid. There's a great counter point of zippy citrus notes and fatter tones like cream and honey. Good now but definitely will evolve into something quite delicious.
