Really great for $50 retail. Barely hitting it's mature stride. American oak is in check here. Called it as 06 Rioja

11 years old and still in its youth. All the hallmarks of a classic Gran Reserva, with a long life ahead. Intense notes of dried fruits and herbs on the nose (blackberry, fig; oregano, thyme), followed by an inevitably savoury taste. Dark fruits emerge to provide some sweetness to the wine, allowing a long, dry finish with well-reformed tannins and a touch of vanilla. Best Rioja I've had recently.

Clove, tobacco, dried flowers, well integrated tannins, full of acidity. This was beyond delicious.

Another weekly wine Committee lunch that I was able to attend, hosted by @Weston Eidson & @Colby Siratt . Excellent job, fellas! All wines tasted blind as usual. Wow! Not only was this my red of the day, it was the wine of the day. The nose on this, whether it was where it was placed in the line up or just the American Oak, was profound. A wine that I would be ok only smelling. Coconut and dill on the nose. Very silky textured on the palate, with Mexican vanilla and a kick of blackberries. Fantastic!

Decanted an hour+ and consumed slowly over the course of a meal. Paired with curry fries and lamb shank at Black Sheep. Solid rioja but I'm still a Lopez guy. A little less going on, pretty tight still. Dill and eucalyptus and blood upon opening, more refined with air. Probably could have used more air to show at its best, but I still think the touch of funk in the Lopez equivalents just does it for me. Glad to have finally tried this!
