Also 2009--showing young and more heft than the Fleurie, but not as interesting as its brother.

2009. Wow is this Burgundian! Plum skin, kirsch liqueur, intense, bold notes of baking spice and sweet smoke. All stainless and neutral oak aging. Very serious Gamay, high acid, grip and age worthy qualities. I love this!

Layers of complexity. Fresh berries, wet forest floor, and floral undertones. Is this a Gamay? Some grippy tannins but smoother than expected.

Swears : it's not just the unicorn. Surrrious Gamay and illusive enough to incite some lasting afterthought. More please.

It's hard to believe the Jules Desjourneys 2009 is a Beaujolais, such is the concentration and depth of this Moulin À Vent. The fruit is not so unusual, a generous dollop of wild strawberries and pie cherries, but then it veers sharply off the sunlit path, into a thicket of scrub and undergrowth, wet decaying leaves and stony brook, only emerge once more with violets, lilacs and sandalwood. Nicely developed, with fine fore-to-mid palate tannins, it's drinking beautifully now and has the potential to last.
