Còlpetrone Montefalco Sagrantino 2010

$24.99

Rich flavors and full, well-integrated tannins. Soft on the palate and dark, plush fruit make this oh, so easy to enjoy.

Was expecting more from this, as I read that sagrantino was "as full bodied and flavorful as Cabernet". The only thing that is comparable to cab here, is the tannic structure. Otherwise, it is far less complex. If you are looking for an obscure, full bodied Italian grape, go with aglianico or negroamaro.

Big and chewy red wine! Intense red color a nose of red fruit, baking spices and a hint of vanilla. Smokey flavors of tobacco, black olives and concentrated dark cherries. Mineral edge. Very full bodied but well balanced. Not a sipper. Enjoy this one with food.

Old world aromas and flavors. Tannic, bold and age-worthy.

Never even heard of this wine before but the guy at Sorrento's recommended it. Per his instructions, we gave it a few hours to open up and were treated to one rustic, alcoholic glass; like ripe cherries dragged through volcanic ash. Pair it with red sauce - mangia.
