Vigneti Massa Monleale Colli Tortonesi Barbera 2002

Old vines and careful vineyard management deliver a tour de force of olive and tomato and consomme and cinnamon and bay leaf, very secondary up front but still fresh on the back end. With lots of dry extract, it delivers secondary complexity and texture that we usually pay much more for in the form of Barolo. Decant!

14 year old single vineyard barbera? Per que non? Nose of iron bay leaf, wet leaves dark stewed fruits, prune, eucalyptus, thyme. On the palate, great energy and incredible density, not particularly deep in fruit or secondary notes. Brown spices, more prune, fig, maybe even some dried unsweetened apricot. A little red note on the finish. Not great complexity or length but tasty
