Podere le Boncie (Giovanna Morganti) Le Trame Toscana Sangiovese Blend 2011

Giovanna Morganti got tired of the politics of the Chianti Classico Consorzio, and so handed in her Gallo Nero with the 2011 vintage. Rooster or no, this is a fabulous, inviting, chatty wine offering violets, anise, cherries, and damp earth. Juicy and open for business.

Ouch! Hate when the wine I chose for @dstuckbomb is corked. Better run back downstairs and chose another #datenight #notca

Lots of funk but it blew off after 20 minutes. Not necessarily dark for a Sangiovese but the body has a notable density, which you wouldn't expect from a traditionally-styled Sangiovese. Seems this muscle likely comes from the Foglia Tondo grape, which is in the mix alongside Coloino (for color), Mammolo (for fragrance), and Canaiolo (to soften.)

Declassified Chianti...I'd drink this all day. In fact I might.

As a Sangio hater, this is beautiful! Such an elegant version. Wet earth n flowers n leather on the nose. Lots of fruit n acid in my mouth.

Earthy, leather & spice on the nose. Dark fruit on the palate.

YES. YES. YES!! This Sangiovese is unbelievable. Spicy. Bold. Dark fruits. Medium tannins. Full bodied. Our third bottle of the evening and it was totally worth waiting for.
