Heitz Cellar Napa Valley Grignolino 2012

A bit of an oddball wine but one that has a nice following of fans. Originally from Piedmont, Heitz uses Grignolino to fashion a very refreshing light red that is quite unlike the typical Californian heavyweights.

This wine makes me so happy. It's so much fun, a la gamay, but with a little citrusy zip to it. Grignolino, there's some day drinking in our immediate future.

Interesting varietal. Very very light red wine, a bit reminiscent of a soft Pinot Noir.

Sweaty and leathery and sour and weird. All in good ways.

Strawberry, quite ripe tasting and much more perfumed than I remember.

Very unique is probably the best (and most polite) descriptor I can assign to this. I have said it before and say it again - not all varietals planted in CA have a perfect home. Just my $0.02.... try it yourself!

Rose & potpourri with a green vinous side. Reminds me of Lacryma. Too perfumey, maybe.
