Domaine Economou Oikonomoy Crete Liatiko 2006

9.226 ratings on Delectable
$37.99

Yannis Economou trained in Barolo and at Chateau Margaux before returning to his native Crete to work with the remarkable indigenous grape varieties of his island. Very old, ungrafted vines and the incredible Cretan garrigue combine here to make one of the most exciting wines we've come across in a long time. Previously sold only in the Cave d'Auge in Paris, we are pleased to have some here!

Interesting find - firm gum line tannins. Prune, earth and cherry. Felt very Italian. Classic.

This was a fascinating wine. Complex with ripe, juicy dark fruit leavened by some herbal notes. Elegant and polished on the attack with a little rusticity on he finish. Combined elements of Burgundy, Piedmont, and even a little Raffault Picasses funkiness. Really really good, and far and away the best wine I've had from Greece.

Brent's description was spot on: traces of Musar, some Brett that blows off quickly, a spot of VA, bruised dark fruit and a woodsy component with acidity for days! Really fun bottle.

This is in a very good place right now. Just the right amount of oxidative goodness while still maintaining acid, tannin structure, and tons of bright red and black fruit. The kind of wine that smells so good you almost don't want to drink it. Almost.

Absolutely fantastic with 10 years of age. Very old world, but light. Ash and blackberries! @Ryan Colthorp remember when we had the assyrtiko from the same producer?

Bright and delicious grape that leave you with ahhh aftertaste. Travel to the old world while tasting nothing other than passion for greatness. Very lucky to taste you Okikonomoy.

Really nice Greek wine that reminds me of Riojas - old oak on the nose and palate: leather, earth and soil, a bit of mushrooms. Light red color that reminds me of Barolo and Alpine Nebbiolo (Gattinara).

Lighter than expected. A little dry. Great nose, fruit forward flavor.
