Domaine de Montbourgeau Cuvée Spéciale L'Etoile Savagnin 2010

9.32 ratings on Delectable
$34.99

L'Etoile is located in the southwestern corner of the Jura and most likely gets its name from the ubiquitous presence of star-shaped fossils in the soils. The Cuvee Speciale from Montbourgeau is 100% Chardonnay and aged in barrel for 4 to 5 years. The long elevage engenders this wine with earthy, nutty aromatics and a honeyed, rich yet almost austere palate.

Javier Gómez-Lavin

Light crayola yellow with a medium consistency. Smells like a cross between an aged mezcal and a sweet Virginia whiskey: smokey, funkey and boozy. Hits with a mix of vanilla ice cream and limoncello - out of its league. Mid crashes down with edgy apple-cider tartness, which then alternates in ever fainter syncopated waves with the first strong vanilla note towards the finish. A stellar jura white for the price. Could be more bacony.
