The Caribbean Cask spends 14 years in ex-bourbon American oak, then finishes in rum casks — barrels that Balvenie first filled with rum, aged them out, and received back from the rum producers specifically for this purpose.The expression was developed by David Stewart MBE, who joined the distillery in 1962 and spent over 60 years there as Malt Master — widely credited with introducing cask finishing to Scotch whisky. Loads of fun and an absolute pleasure start to finish -the never ending finish. That said: I think I might be a more of a traditionalist than I thought as I like classic cask regiments where the kiln and grain speak for the house with less flourish and fragrance. Granted I could take this to sea and never wish for another whisky.
