The Caribbean Cask spends 14 years in ex-bourbon American oak, then finishes in rum casks — barrels that Balvenie first filled with rum, aged them out, and received back from the rum producers specifically for this purpose.The expression was developed by David Stewart MBE, who joined the distillery in 1962 and spent over 60 years there as Malt Master — widely credited with introducing cask finishing to Scotch whisky.
