CALIFORNIA : BALLARD CANYON Sangiovese MED-BODIED, TART POMEGRANATE, RED BERRY, LYCHEE, DARK PLUM, OAK Delicious and approachable, ‘Love You Bunches’ is an effort to make a fresher, lighter version of Sangiovese via Carbonic Fermentation — allowing grapes to ferment whole, uncrushed in a sealed tank — in order to soften the grape’s naturally high levels of tannin and acid (PS: the name is a pun on the gentle treatment of whole grape bunches.) Serve cold! ECOLOGY: Sustainable FOOD PAIRING: Pesto PIzza with Arugula & Prosciutto *Low Sulfites

From my gal (whose palate is much better than mine but thinks tracking wine is too much work): Chilled and perfect. Dusky, ruby plum colour. Smells like sweet Alberta wild rose, cranberries, sour cherry, pie spice and a damp evening. Tastes like tart cherry, bell peppers and cola bottle candies. The chilledness walks a fine line between bright acidity and subtle tannins at the end.

Trendy carbonic sweet dry red served chilled. Just odd, possibly in a good way, too much to decipher. I could see this working on a hot sunny day as a starter wine, seems fun, but that’s about it. More than one glass is too much.
