Ruinart Blanc de Blancs Brut Champagne Chardonnay NV

$104

FRANCE : CHAMPAGNE SUSTAINABLE : Chardonnay MED-BODIED, RIPE LEMON, WHITE PEACH, WHITE FLOWERS, CHALK, NO OAK Ruinart signed its founding charter in Reims in 1729, which makes it the oldest Champagne house by a comfortable margin, and it has built everything since on Chardonnay. This is the bottle that states the case plainly: all white grapes, drawn from 25 to 30 crus across the Côte des Blancs, the Montagne de Reims, the Sézannais and the Vallée de la Vesle. Fermentation runs in stainless steel with no oak anywhere, and the malolactic is carried out in full. That combination is the whole trick. Nothing browns or softens the fruit, so the Chardonnay arrives unmediated, while the malolactic supplies enough roundness to keep a zero-oak blanc de blancs from turning severe. The wine then spends two to three years on its lees forty metres down in the crayères, Roman chalk pits beneath Reims that are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Drink it young: the point of this cuvée is freshness, not bottle development. PAIRINGS : Oysters on the half shell the chalk and citrus do the work of a squeeze of lemon Sea bass carpaccio with lime the house's own pairing; ripe citrus in the wine tracks the lime Aged Comté nutty, almost butterscotch, against the almond note from lees ageing

Been a minute since I’ve had Ruinart. Especially, a Blanc de blanc. From 375ml. The mouthfeel, rich with soft mousse. Slightly bruised golden apple, touch of apple cider, yellow pear, ripe-juicy yellow peach, juicy pineapple, tropical melons, green caramel apple, brioche-baguette crust, frothy cream, soft, white spice, vanilla-vanillin, saline-sea spray, dry, volcanic minerals, dry limestone marl, crumbled-dry chalk, yellow flowers framed in white, spring flowers in greens, pleasant, soft acidity and well balanced, mid toned/structured, elegant finish that lasts nearly a minute and long sets on beautiful minerality. 91+ The top left cave picture tells you why no other region can replicate that kind/much chalkiness in wine. The roots swim it. For me, there is no real substitute.

Bright nose with tropical notes of underripe pineapple, lemon and lime. Lemon bread, white mushroom and chive. Silky mousse that leaps into lime the pineapple, lemon verbena, lime pith and creamy lemon. The yeast is there around the edges, but shapes more than defines. Textural perfection. #champagneruinart #ruinart #blancdeblanc #champagne #chardonnay #rheims

From a blend of 100% premiers crus Chardonnay grapes from recent vintages. Grapes from vineyards Sillery and Brimont (ancestral home of the Ruinart family), and other premier sites. Fine mousse and bubble flow. Citrus and Apple flavors with honeysuckle, toasty notes and lemon rind. Well balanced with nutty character, great mouthfeel on long finish, ending with mineral and yeasty tang. Nice!
